It’s Been a Long Winter!

@RobbSaulSubscribe to Saul Ball

My goodness! Has it been a long winter or what? It seems like it was forever ago that I was partying in downtown St. Louis for the Cardinals victory parade.

Cardinals are World Champions!

Spring Training has begun and now it’s time for this blogger to come out of hibernation. I’m not going to duplicate what MLB Trade Rumors does, nor am I going to do it as well. Therefore, I leave the off-season blogging to them.

In the coming weeks I will start posting on a more regular basis and also look to (possibly) add a weekly podcast. We’ll see how it all goes and what the future brings. In any case, I will be making some sort of announcement about a podcast soon. So check back here at Saul Ball or follow me @RobbSaul to keep up to date.

Recovering From Losing a Hall of Fame Caliber Player

@RobbSaulSubscribe to Saul Ball

Living most of my life in Seattle and being a lifelong Mariners fan, I witnessed not one, not two, but three franchise players and sure bet future Hall of Famers leave the Mariners. First to leave was Randy Johnson who was traded to the Houston Astros at the 1998 trade deadline. Next was the trade of Ken Griffey, Jr. to his hometown Cincinnati Reds. Then in December 2000, in Dallas no less (more…)

Pujols Isn’t a Villain

@RobbSaulSubscribe to Saul Ball

The news is starting to settle in with many around the country and especially so in the St. Louis area. MLB Network showed video of a Cardinals fan burning an Albert Pujols jersey in a bathrobe. Two months prior to my move from Mariners Country to Cardinals Nation I wrote a post about Pujols looming free agency, Weighing in on Pujols.

The Cardinals had a chance to get a deal with Pujols done. They took a risky gamble and it didn’t work. Instead of showing Pujols what he meant to the Cardinals organization, Mozeliak and Company waited for a market to develop for him and base their offer on what sources were reporting the other offers to be at. If I was John Mozeliak: Christmas 2012 Wish List

@RobbSaul – Subscribe to Saul Ball

Like most St. Louis Cardinals fans, I wanted to see Albert Pujols re-sign with the Cardinals. I became a huge Cardinals fan in my first year in St. Louis. I love what Pujols brings to the Cardinals. That being said, I think the Cardinals have the potential to be a better team without him. Of course they need to budget that $20+ million per year that they would have given Pujols to do so.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak...

If I was Cardinals GM John Mozeliak...

So where would I start if I was John Mozeliak? The moves are a little less obvious with Pujols off the market. I would honestly start in areas where other armchair GM’s probably wouldn’t. (more…)

Pujols to Angels for 10-Years $250M, What is Fielder Worth?

@RobbSaul – Subscribe to Saul Ball

I was preparing a post late last night (early this morning actually) breaking down some of Wednesday’s deals, as well as the latest Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder rumors. Around 12 hours ago the rumors were that it would take an offer in excess of $400 million for Pujols to sign anywhere other than the St. Louis Cardinals. It was also rumored that he would not sign before the end of the winter meetings. Let’s leave yesterday’s rumors and news in yesterday. (more…)
